MG TD TF 1500 - Progress on TD 4139
So all the bodywork is done. Took the tub off the frame and put it on the painting jig today. Now we start with the primer. I still have a few parts to strip, like hoods, but it is coming along slow but sure. Also, I did use a lead substitute on a number of areas, but found I still needed a fine skim coat of plastic on some areas. |

Forgot the picture. Wonder why you can't add a photo using the edit function?

It looks like you are towing the body trolley with the chassis and using the spare tire rack as the hitch. :-) Congratulations on this milestone. |

Looking good! |

Step By Step is how you get it done. Today, the rear fenders went on. Tomorrow the fuel tank and tire carrier.

And you get to work in no smoke conditions versus the pictures you posted before. :-)
Just for the heck of it how many fender washers do you have between the inside bottom of the fender and the chassis bracket they are fastened to? I ask, and it's probably a camera angle thing, but the left fender looks like it's tweaking a bit inward. The number of washers is not exact but needs to fill the gap so the fender sits vertically. I.e. the fender bead does not draw inward or outward when viewed from the rear of the car. |

As I remember, your had a number of washers. I actually put rubber in there for now. Once I get the tank on, I will adjust the bottom to get it parallel. Is there any disadvantage to using rubber between that point? |

"Is there any disadvantage to using rubber between that point?" This is from a guy building a super original car? :-) My car has three fender washers IIRC between the fender and frame. But my fenders always seem flatter to me than most so maybe they did not need too many to get the spacing correct. YMMV. Just stack whatever gives you the correct look. I just hate to look at cars with tilted rear fenders. |

Bruce. I used white plastic spacer/ washers from Ace Hardware. They come in various sizes and thicknesses. 1/4 -3/16” seems ideal for that location. They don’t rust, deform, rot or mar the paint (if it has fully cured). They are also made very thin and I use them behind my fender washers so the metal washers don’t cut into the paint. You can also get spacers in steel if you prefer from other sources. |

Thanks Bill. What was used originally? Rubber, Steel? They have black nylon washers at my hardware. I may look at that. |

Originally the spacers were the large fender washers. That's why I made that original statement above. :-) |
