MG TD TF 1500 - Putting it back together and starting her up...
OK, so I've had my 51 TD up on blocks for the past month, working on the gas tank, the convertible top, the roll bar and a variety of other projects (sound system) and in the last week I've finished painting the tank and put her back on. Additionally, I ended up putting on a new tailpipe (the old one was badly crimped, and taking it off required removal of the whole exhaust system). Today I did the last bits and pieces and put in some gas. After finding my cheap valve leaked, I took it off and put the drain plug back in. I didn't use any gasket sealant, and there were zero leaks anywhere (except the valve) and once I put the plug in, I was pretty much ready to go. I reconnected the fuel pump and pressed the starter. Nothing. Forgot to reconnect the coil lead! Once I did that she fired instantaneously and ran very nicely. Sounds better too - at least, it seems so to me. I think the new tailpipe is definitely and improvement and will keep the engine running better! Tomorrow I'll go for a test drive. |
