Whats not working Paul?

The speedometer and amp gauge(spell?)LaVerne. They also look dirty and the hands are a dirty white, one has paint missing. They really need to be redone. Having a new looking dash and the old gauges looking like they do now just won't do. The clock runs, but won't keep proper time. PJ

*I haven't done an amp gauge put I repaired my Speedo gauge. Had a stripped gear. Found the right one in an old Sprite gauge I had laying on the shelf. The gauge faces were in good shape. The crap you see here is on the inside of the glass. Fine brush and some with paint takes care of the needles.

Cleaned up pretty well I think.

Paul -- I had Vintage Restorations (Kent, England) repair my instruments/gauges, and also had the tach and speedo faces replaced. I have attached a photo of said faces and if these are in better condition than the ones you have, you are welcomed to them. If not interested, then they are available to anyone on this BBS who wants them.

I've received an e-mail from Hugh indicating that he is interested in the two "faces" I mentioned were available in my previous post. Because of the initial offer I made to Paul, he has first right of refusal. If so, then Hugh will be the recipient.

Paul, many years ago when helping restore a friend's TF, the gauges looked terrible. I removed the glass, and everything cleaned up nicely. Same deal with the needles. I went to a hobby store, and bought and used some white model enamel paint and a tiny paint brush and repainted the needles. They pretty much looked like new when finished. May be worth a try. Hal Kramer used to do the clocks, I don't know if he is still around or not. Try running the speedo with an electric drill to make sure the cable isn't broken or something. George

George, The speedo works but squeals and is jumpy,(tested with a drill), also looks bad. The amp gauge has no continuity across the terminals, I'm assuming it's burnt up. Temp gauge really should have new tubing and bulb installed. The tach works, but have no idea how accurate it is. I really think these gauges have been apart before, good question as to who, as some of the tabs on the bezels are missing. They really need redoing. With the cost of repairing and lubing the inside gearing, the faces and dial hands are a minor added cost.
This car looked good when I bought it, but it had so many hidden issues, it became mind boggling. PJ
Paul sr

You definitely need restoration in that case. The car I did was a different deal- 17K mile second owner virgin barn-fresh car. George

What a blessing that would have been.
I only bought this car because the completely rebuilt engine had only 10 hrs on it and the drive train is in excellent condition. Along with the fact the wood was in great shape, I only had to replace two pieces in front of the fuel tank. So I figure I'm still ahead of the game.(Somewhat). LOL. PJ

Have your friend contact the Alamo MG Association in San Antonio. They can probably help.
