MG TD TF 1500 - Question on TF-8353 notes.

In the information I've received about my car, there is a statement in the registration information in the NOTES section. It is written as illustrated,
( Notes HDC 46/8353 ). What does the HDC 46 represent? Thanks, PJ

PJ,

Here is a great link that can decode what those letters and numbers mean. These VIN numbers you see in your vehicle registration should also match the manufacturing plate of the car.

HD - this is an MG - H and D - an open two seater car.

C - the original color of the vehicle as it left Abingdon. Dark red ( MG Red )

4 - The market for which the car is built for. LHD for North America ( including Canada and Mexico )

6 - Type of paint finish for the vehicle. Cellulose body with synthetic wings ( fenders).

Thanks Frank, that is very interesting. My car has matching numbers, which is a plus. My 1500 engine only has about 12 hrs on it since total rebuild. I presently have the chassis and drive train restored back to original with new brake lines and original type wiring harness. Since we moved to the farm in Oklahoma, the cars in limbo for now. Probably won't get back to it until spring. Thanks again for the info. PJ.

PJ - You might want to invest in the 'T' Series Handbook that was put out many years ago by the New England MG 'T' Register. This book is available from BritBooks at: http://www.britbooks.com/index.htm and is full of information such as points of originality, modifications over the manufacturing span of each of the T series cars, original colors, etc. Very good reference book for the T series owner. I second David. An incredible source. George

Dave/George, Are you talking about the 2009 spiral bound edition? There's a lot of T series books advertised, some out of print. PJ

My spiral bound copy is dated 1993. Its main difference over the earlier, non-spiral version is a TSO index. Bud
