MG TD TF 1500 - Questions about using Lucas Sport Coil on '52 TD
I am currently working on my '52 TD, and purchased the Lucas Sport Coil, sold by Moss Motors.... I have several questions: The old coil was marked "CB" and "SW", on the terminals... This one is marked "+" "-"...Which terminal goes to the dizzy? (standard points type). I was really upset that nothing indicated that I needed a different HT connection, in the ad for the coil...Can I just change the screw-in , to a plug in, by changing the connector? Finally, what do I adjust the spark plug gap to, with this coil? Thanks for help Edward |

Ed, it's not that bad. In general these things are labelled for a positive ground system. The 'SW' terminal would go to the Ignition SWitch (-), and the 'CB' terminal would go to the Contact Breaker (+) terminal. You'll probably need to change the connector on the HV cable to a plug-in, rather than screw-in, type. With my sport coil I set my plug gap at .030", sometimes .035". BTW, I also use a pertronix ignition, but the .030-.035" gap should still be fine IMHO. Bud |
