MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Cap puzzle
I have two rad caps, both of which are heavy brass chrome plated. However, one has a "circular" raised area in the middle and the other has an "octagonal" raised area in the middle. Both came with the car, but I assume that one is org. and one is repro. Also, on the "circular" one the edges are very sharp and crisp, whereas, on the "octagonal" one the edges are rounded (buffed) off quite a bit. Any idea which is to be org. I sorta favour the "circular" one. Greg & Grimm |

Morning I purchased my project hulk (52 TD #20102) from the original owner in 1993 and it came equiped with the octagon raised center style cap. I am presuming that it is the original. I believe that the 52 TD that I had in the 60's also had the octagon. The edges of my cap are still rather crisp even though I had the the cap re-chromed so it is possible that someone got carried away with cleaning and polishing. Dick Safety Fast |

Greg, my original Octagonal cap has a raised circular center section. |

Hmmm...the radiator cap on my '50 TD is octagonal and has a thermometer of some sort on it. I think that was an aftermarket item from way back then. |

'53 - Octagonal raised portion... both rad and oil cap. |

Greg, I was wrong. I looked closely last night at my octagonal cap and it has a raised octagonal center area, not circular. Robert, the cap you have was indeed an aftermarket cap since the early cars didnt have a temperature guage on the dash panel. Later cars had a combination oil pressure and coolant temperature guage. |
