MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Slat Painting
I am finally getting to the point where I will be installing my radiator, and although the previous owner had it rechromed and rebuilt, he also painted the slats black to match the black interior. Since I will be returning the car to the original Ivory with green interior, I want to paint the slats a green which will match the interior. So, does anyone have an idea of a shade of green which will at least come close? Don Scott |

Hi Don. Yes I do (colorblind as I am) I am also doing an original ivory with a green interior. The paint that matched was Dutch Boy 3734 Green in an Aerosol can. Dutch Boy is a Sherwin Williams brand. Attached is a picture, which won't tell you a darn thing because of monitor difference and errors in reproducing color in digital form... but everyone tells me that color nails the Moss interior color. warmly, dave |

Thanks Dave - I have admired your progress via your web site but didn't know, because of the limitations you list, if you were matching the Moss interior color. By the way, your fabulous web site helped me identify a part I had not been able to identify, the brackets which go behind the headlight tie bracket. Since my project was already disassembled I had no clue what those two brackets went to, and they are not shown in the Moss or Abingdon Spares catalogues. Thanks again. Don Scott |

My pleasure, Don. And thanks for the compliments on the website. I'm looking forward to seeing your car now that I know the color scheme, so post a picture occasionally! I'm glad you found my site useful. If I understand correctly, you are talking about the brackets which bolt the head lamp stays to the radiator tie bracket. I painted mine body color, but Moss has them under the chrome section, because they sell chrome versions. Not sure which is correct. You can clear coat the Dutch Boy paint with standard body clear after it has cured for quite a while (a couple of weeks). Otherwise the paint may lift. warmly, dave |

To answer the question about the head lamp bracket to radiator, mine are original, and they are chrome plated. George Raham TD 4224 |

Hi Don, Glad to hear of your progress. You are almost there!! I used the almond green code from Chris Couper's site: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm I had it mixed in PPG acrylic enamel. It is reasonably close. It is very slightly more blue-green. Unless I told someone they were a different color, they would never know. Also, Chris' site says it is the original color. Good luck, Evan |

don, have you considered powder coating the slats? that stuff seems to be nearly indestructable. regards, tom |
