MG TD TF 1500 - radio suppressor how to wire
When the TF is running, the AM Emitron radio has ignition static. (Only Emitron I have ever seen on T series - the one like in owners manual and for North AMERICA only) - I have a NOS Radiomobile "1 mfd Coil or Multi Purpose Suppressor" It is a blue cylinder about the size of a thimble, with a black wire coming out the top and a mounting plate on the bottom. The wire has a standard female brass connector that has a spade Male connector attached to it that is bent to a U shape. Anyone know where this connects to??? Thanks. |

Sounds to me like it's just a capacitor. If it has a mounting plate, I'd mount that somewhere convenient but as close to the coil as possible, and make sure it has a good electrical connection to the chassis. Then connect the wire to the SUPPLY side of the coil, NOT the side that goes to the points. If that doesn't work, you can try a larger value capacitor. 100mfd isn't too much, at least 50 volts rating. You can get one at any electronics place. It will probably have a polarity; if you have a negative ground car, the negative side of the capacitor goes to ground and the positive to the coil dc supply side. Vice versa for positive ground. Also be sure that the frame of your radio is well grounded to the chassis, as close to the place where it is mounted as possible. I had a radio noise problem with the electric fuel pump in my '67 Porsche, and it took a 3000 mfd capacitor and some experimentation with grounds to kill the noise. So, don't be afraid to experiment a little. |

This is like what I used many years ago on my '67 B for am radio noise from the plugs. I could cruise and listen to KXOK all day long! http://www.englishparts.com/products/gb/MG/1962/midget/CLIP--CAP--SPARK-PLUG-CONNECTOR--RIGHT-ANGLE--MGB-1962-1967/7143541/3H1422.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla |

Thanks so much for the info! I will try that tomorrow. We will see if it works. Keith |
