MG TD TF 1500 - Ratty TF1500 on eBay
It will be interesting to see what this sells for, as it needs a lot of work to be even presentable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MG-T-Series-2-dr-roadster-/141791065206?forcerrptr=true&hash=item210367f476&item=141791065206 It's a genuine 1500, which earns it a premium, and they don't come up that often. That is about what mine looked like, black 1500 and ratty. Mine turned out to be a dimond in the rough, full of dents and neglect but.. All the wood was good, and there was NO rust, anywhere with the exception of the metal under the battery. It was an easy and fun restoration. -David. |

I shall be watching this with great interest. My recent purchase (a year ago this last June) is very similar to this car. Mine was also tucked away for 40 years, but did not run. Zero rust and the wood is perfect and only one small ding. It's interesting to note this car, like mine, has had the seats redone in vinyl. Very common thing back then, I'm told. Can anyone read the Chassis number? Dan TF 7946 btw, I like ratty. :) Mine, when done and on the road, will look as close as possible to what it looked like when it was last driven in 1973. Pretty much as you see it hear. |

Looks like TF 8227 XPEG 2055. My TF is very close to this one, TF 8281, also black 1500 with a red interior and wire wheels. |

I'll also be watching it, Dan. I think this is a nice little diamond in the rough - the best thing about it is that it doesn't appear to have been fiddled with too overly much, so there's lots of originality left. Love the period carburettor spark arrestors (you can't really call them 'air cleaners', now, can you?!). |

Looks like by reading the VIN and spray behind the doors and behind front quarter to the tub this was a Birch grey car originally. Car reminds me of my car on tear down of the interior. It will be interesting what the final sale will be. |

Kevin, As per spark arresters, are you speaking of the Volks air cleaners on the car? They were factory, but the screens on them don't appear to be original, the original ones had round holes. Maybe I missed your point. Depending on what this goes for, it could be a good buy for a total restoration. PJ |

Yeah, Paul, they look modified for better flow, but at this point they probably only stop sparks! |

Kevin, Looking at the air cleaners it appears the mesh is the same on each, however the diamond shape perforations are not going in the same direction. Original? I have two that are supposedly original and are round holes approximately 1/16" pic |

original air cleaners had round holes, Moss repros have diamond mesh. |

Well Kevin, what do think about the TF? I'll stick my neck out and voice an opinion. Based on what I have learned in the short time I have been involved with the mgtf's I'd say this was a fishing expedition. List the car with an inflated reserve and get a few of your friends to bid it up (yet stay below the reserve) and see if you can get a bidding frenzy going. Considering what I paid for mine and the fact it was/is in far better condition than this one it seems very unlikely to fetch the kind of price the seller is suggesting it worth. Whatcha think? |

Maybe from an MGA? That is what this Grille was fashioned out of.

Didn't meet the seller's reserve at $10,550. Pretend it sold for $12,500, sink another $5,000 into it to get it reliably and safely on the road and you would have a nice $12,500 car. Spend the $35,000 it needs on a thorough restoration, and you have a nice $45,000 car, on which you have spent - well, never mind. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

If this car had been closer and the USD exchange rate to Cdn wasn't so bad I would have gladly paid $12500 for it. As it was I was one of the bidders early on. I don't think it was a fishing expedition. |

Dealers are notorious for doing this. I say this only because I have been asked to participate in the game. I would not! But it does get exposure and that is how we get things sold. It will be interesting to see if it comes up again. Hugh, hearing this from you (a man I consider an expert on MGs) makes me think I got a pretty good deal on mine. I paid considerably less and received about $2500. in new parts. Much of which I won't use though. But just about any way you look at it these cars are a losing proposition. Oh, but they are fun. Right? Spend it at the golf course or spend it on the car. I'll go with the car every time. At least there is a small monetary return. |
