MG TD TF 1500 - Rear Brake Cylinder install TD15470
I installed my rear brake cylinders, and something has me a bit bothered. The LH side went in tightly and slides with friction, although I can move it by hand. The right hand side went in loosely, and I can easily move it with a finger tip (prior to install the shoes as Americans call them or linings). When I disassembled my brakes, one rear shoe only was scored and worn to its rivets, and I didn't note which one. Do I need to take my LH back plate off my car, remove the brake shoes and figure out a way to free up that cylinder motion, or do the brakes exert enough pressure that if I can move them by hand although stiffly, I'm fine? thanks, dave |

Dave - As long as the cylinder will move without having to resort to prying with a screwdriver, it should be ok. If you are worried about it, I think you should just have to remove the cylinder and releave the sides of the cutout a bit with a file while the backing plate is in place. Good luck - Dave |
