MG TD TF 1500 - Rear brake Cylinders
Can I apply brake grease to the hand brake piston in the rear brake cylinders? In an attempt to stop water entry. also put some inside the rubber boot. I use dot 4 hydraulic oil not silicon fluid. If so - is there a particular grease I should use Does it matter if some gets to the cylinder bores before the actual rubber seal? There is another rubber seal at the opening of the rear brake cylinder [not shown in the WSM] - but it has never seemed to work that good keeping water out on its own. Appreciate any advise? Rod |

Thanks Gene, I think I am also asking if It is OK to put this brake grease in the location between the two arrows on the right? On the split moving pistons from the rear brake cylinder? You can also see the first rubber seal that is not shown in the WSM. Hopefully an improvement. Also put a good dollop inside the rubber boot. {LH arrow} In the hopes of keeping out water and dirt? The Brake Lube I picked up is Syl-Glyde form Napa. Looks a bit like Vaseline. Says it is good for all types of rubber installations and Caliper's. Just concerned if it will migrate to the hydraulic Rubber seal and do any damage. Last year I had to replace all the seals and brake hoses as the local International Parts store sold me Hydrolastic suspension oil instead of Dot 4 brake Oil. Can was all in German and I did not know better. Found this rear cylinder leaking after a good run last Saturday but it has possibly been leaking for some time. Cylinder wall did look corroded. Don't want to go through this again for a while. Rod |
