MG TD TF 1500 - Rear end

Anyone have a clear photo of the rear end around the U bolts.... Think I'm ok for re installing, but wanted to be sure i'm putting everything back in the right order?

If its not too late, I suggest you install a pair of the MGA "buffer Plates". These fit on top of the axle housing to prevent the U-bolts from chafing the top of the axle housing from the inevitable movement of the axle under the U-bolts.

When I dimantled mine a couple of years ago, I was surprised at how much wear had taken place on top of the housing, and I have been told stories of the wear making a hole and draining the axle of lubricant.

These are available from Moss at about $10 (US) apiece. Moss part nbr. 267-560.

Hello Gordon, Also replace all rubber bits, and make sure the u-bolt threads are not stretched, etc. Make sure the u-bolt nuts don't bottom out on the threads before they actually tighten on the rubber. Check the shocks/links also while apart if you haven't already. Must use the buffer plates as above. Make sure the vent hole in the axle tube is open, and most importantly, don't forget the oil! Being as everyone else is telling you what to do - :>)
also, if you have the car up on stands or a lift, put it back on the floor before tightening the spring hanger bolts. This is to allow the weight of the car to position the rubber in its " normal" position and the flexing will be equal.

Well, turned 59 on Tuesday and was flat on my back by Thursday... between the flu and a tooth problem I was a wreck...sheesh... age!
Anyway, am going in tonight to do the rear end... Friday the 13th... could I choose a better day.... "remember the oil, remember the oil, remember the oil"......

Glad you're rebounding, Gordon. Soon you will have that spring in your step again.

Oh, and remember the oil.
