MG TD TF 1500 - rear reflector

I have noticed that some mgtfs have reflectors on a rubber plinth high on the rear body of the car. Does anyone know if this is correct for all MGTF cars or limited to the 1500s or later cars? It sure seems like a good safety idea but I am not sure it is correct for my early TF.

The additional rear reflectors were were required after a certain date.
I think it was July 1, 1954.
