MG TD TF 1500 - Rear shock link
Hi, can the ball end (upper) rubber bushes be renewed,I don't want to destroy it if it can't be done. The Moss part lists only 2 bushes per car which leads me to think they can't. I have done the lower ones and may replace the uppers with spherical Rose joints if I have to. Ray TF 2884 |

Hi again, sorry to drag this post back to the top (it feels like I am shouting!). Does anybody have the answer to this TF rear shocker link question. Ray TF 2884 |

Ray Our TF's used armstrong shocks all round. The rear links for those shock differed from the link used on the girling shocks used on many TD's. I had my rear suspension apart last year when I upgraded my rear end. That upper "ball" end is filled with hard rubber-like material. I looked them over, and seriously doubt that the upper one can be replaced. I bought one new link, as I snapped the bolt/nut off. They are readily available and not expensive. I see used ones on ebay now and then also. Hope that helps. Tom '54 TF |

I looked into this and concluded that I'd have to buy new ones. The Girling links can be rebushed but not the Armstrong, unless you're very clever with rubber!. AJ |

Ray, sorry, I mis-spoke. The "ball end" is at the bottom. You were asking if the upper cylindrical bush is replaceable. I still think "no". Buy a new or good used link, in MHO. Tom '54 TF |

Tom, my fault, I should know the ball joint is at the bottom, I have only had the car for 37 years!!!!. I have now bought new ones but may still look at the possibiliy of repair or modification Ray TF2884 |
