MG TD TF 1500 - Rediculus Price

Y'all will have some fun with this one, and it's got a "Salvage title."

Great and long discription of the dealer, short blurb on what a TF is, no information on that paricular car.

I don't know much about TF's, but it looks like a really nice car, and lots of money invested....
Wouldn't be a bit surprised if he has close to that in the restoration...
He probably won't get it, but , for all of our cars' values, I hope he does.

Give me a break, no dash grab hanele or clock?
TM Going

Very very nice ...but should have spared just a little extra for a clock! LOL
Always wondered what it would look like if you simply returned a Moss catalog with a blank check and a note:
"One of each, please."

In Massachusetts a Salvage titled vehicle can never receive any other type of title and the vehicle can never be registered. Bud

I looked the other day and I think there were about 4 T cars for sale through dealers. They are all on crack in my book. Each one way over the top on prices regardless of the condition of the car.

My cars aren't perfect but I'll put em up against those anyday. My TF has a blower and a 5 speed along with some other goodies and for a hundred grand I could have built 3 just like it. Give me a break.

Something looks funny with the front suspension. It appears too high.

I will let the TF folks pour over it and comment on the imperfections, but I would agree. If all that was done was done, this is probably close to the costs in this vehicle.

Salvage titles are a bit deceiving. Each state varies in what constitutes a vehicle that requires a salvage title. In Wisconsin is is any damage over 70% of the vehicles value for a car 7 or less years old. So in this state, a car of our age may not have a salvage title even though it may have had sever damage to it.

In other states, any vehicle listed as "totaled" gets a salvage title. For our cars, in today's world, it would not take a lot of damage to get the insurance company to consider it a total. I had to fight with an insurance company bake in 1984 to not declare my MGB totaled after it was rear ended. Only thing that saved it was that I had just put a new motor in it. Damage was not that bad. Just sheet metal. Had it repaired in about 3 weeks.

In California.

"Salvaged: Vehicles marked with a "salvaged" brand were involved in an accident or incurred considerable damage from another source, such as a flood or vandalism. This brand includes previously dismantled (junked) vehicles."

So could also be that this is put together car from other parts. I posted a question to the dealer to get the reason (if they tell the truth)

NH doesn't seem to address titles on older cars. I had one with a MA title but they told me it was too old to get a NH title.

When I was a kid, back when that TF was new, MA was not a title state.

Interestingly, NH still does not title boats, even brand new!

When I had Little-T transfered into my name here in Ky.with the 1970 Florida title the county court clerks office would only issue a salvage title in my name since the car was in pieces. I told them it was never wrecked and only taken apart to be restored but that didn't matter. They have assured me once he is back together and inspected they will re-issue me a standard title but I serioulsy doubt it. I should have waited until he was all finished and ready to drive before transferring but I didn't like the thought of having all that money tied up in a car that was still in someone else's name.

Richard ,
FWIW : You made the right move!
Had a friend that sunk a pile of $ into an Austin 300. Went to get tittle only to find it had been stolen (going back over 15 years) and sold on bill of sale 5/6 times.
He got lucky, "Owner" had emotional ties to the car and worked a deal with him as he was delighted to get the car back restored. My friend still got kind of screwed for all the work he put in it ...but it could have been much worse. Not sure if he ever got any restatution from "other sellers" ...but I know it went on for years!

That's a lot of dosh but is it better value for money than this wreck (poor thing!): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290675951525

£10k purchase price and "in need of full restoration". The seller hasn't mis-described the sale, although he hasn't tried to estimate the restoration costs either.

Interesting that this has an MGA steering wheel

Tom,
Mom allways said if you can't say something nice ....
It DOES have correct 3 bow hood frame!
David Sheward

David (S) - You are quite right. My grandma used that saying all the time and she was sweet as apple pie..... never owned a car in all her life, though (and I doubt if she rode in one more than a dozen times, either).

You guys need to live in Mississippi...show up at the DMV with two bill of sales and they'll title the car for you. I think Georgia and Alabama used to be this way too.
Gene Gillam

Ya but things are different in the United States Gene

LOL.

Alabama was indeed where stolen cars were once "rehabilitated"
