MG TD TF 1500 - Relationship of top of pedal box to floorboard
I've gathered from reading various threads and looking at Dave Braun's photos that the floorboards sit on the chassis and on top of the transmission tunnel, but underneath the gearbox tunnel. There is a section of floorboard missing on my vehicle in front of the access hole for the master cylinder. The remaining floorboard is 5/8" (16mm) thick and the transmission tunnel and gearbox tunnel appear to have been fitted correctly. However, the top of the pedal box flange, which is exposed due to the missing section of floorboard, is about 30mm below the gearbox tunnel flange when I would expect the gap to be the same as the floorboard thickness. Is the floorboard meant to sit directly on top of the pedal box flange, or is there meant to be some form of spacer in here? Matt |

Matt- The top of the box is welded to the frame top as shown in the attached photo. The floorboard then sits on the frame at this same side. I hope this helps. Roy |

Matt, the standard floorboard is 3/8" thick. It's also common to find 1/2" thick. Bud |

Yes, there is a spacer. There is as thick (5-6mm or so) rubber piece between the floorboard and the pedal box lip. The wood should extend all the way foreward to the firewall, with a rectangular cutout to slip it past the base of the pedals. George |

Matt, see http://www.ttalk.info/TDFloorboards.htm for the cutout that George mentions. Bud |

I've rechecked the measurement and my boards are definately 5/8" thick. The gap between the board and the pedal box flanges is about 3/8". The floor is sitting on the lower flange of the firewall at the front, but most of the fixings appear to be missing, if they were in place it could pull the floor down to its correct level. I think this is a job for the winter. I'm not sure whether it would be best to change the floor to 3/8" or stick with the 5/8" currently installed. Matt |

Matt, I'd suggest checking the archives. Just look for 'foorboard' and 'thickness'. The various threads have some excellent information in them. The thick floorboard will cause you grief when you attempt to attach the gearbox cover to the firewall. Bud |

The high the floorboard, the sooner the pedals boot will rip. |
