MG TD TF 1500 - Removing front grille... difficult?
Hi All, I'm interested in removing the radiator grill and re-painting it. But, on a quick inspection it appears to be a bit of work to get it out of there. I haven't really looked at it in-depth, just a quick glance the last time before it went up on the lift for winter. Thanks, Scott |

Took me about half an hour to get the shell off and the slats out... There are flat head bolts under the rubber rest strip... the headlight brackets get removed... and the shell slides up and off. The slats however are not in one piece...there is a center piece with 7 slats on each side...the smaller outside ones come out separately... a bit of a pain... Watch the order they are removed as i seem to remember it being a bit of a jigsaw puzzle...(one on top of the former and under the next...or something like that). You might find it easier to mask carefully and do it on the car. |

The two center ones are seperate, too. John |

A couple of photos that may help: http://www.wdmadvertising.com.au/td/DCP_1433.JPG and http://www.wdmadvertising.com.au/td/DCP_1434_2.jpg I punched numbers on the rear (inside) of each slat (R1, R2 etc) before blasting them. Made reassembly a lot less of a puzzle |

Wish I had taken photos last time I had mine out. From memory it seems my 53 grill slats are comprised of many more pieces. The removal is however as Gordon describes and the reassembly issues reqire a little patience. Go for it! Jim Haskins 1953 TD |
