MG TD TF 1500 - Rocker update
Got the rocker assembly removed tonight... got it apart and kept all in order... The first rocker slid onto the new shaft (with oil and a bit of twisting pressure) easily... on the 4th rocker bracket I noticed a crack running through the large bolt hole... Didn't want to leave it all apart so started sliding it on the shaft...lost the piece as I had to exert a fair amount of pressure... Set it aside and was again going to slide all the other parts on in order, but the next rocker didn't go on (too tight)... does one 'force', 'apply large amounts of twisting pressure', 'use a press of some kind', 'hone the bushings till they slip over'????? http://www.gblandco.com/gb/2006spring/tappet3.jpg http://www.gblandco.com/gb/2006spring/tappet4.jpg http://www.gblandco.com/gb/2006spring/tappet5.jpg http://www.gblandco.com/gb/2006spring/tappet6.jpg |

Hi Gordon, I would hone the bushes. If you can't get a reamer try a brake cylinder hone. They are increadibly inexpensive and will do the job, but very slowly so you won't go too far. Cheers, Paul. |

Gordon, if you lose the order of the rocker arms, you can figure it out by mounting the pedestals in the head, and placing the arms against the pedestals. Every rocker arm has one edge agains one of the pedestals, and the geometry of the valve and pushrod makes it such that there's only one way to install them. |

Noticed that when I took it all apart... rockers fit against pedestals, washer on each side of springs... clips at the ends...Picked up the new bracket/pedestal today so should be ready to put it back in on Saturday. |
