MG TD TF 1500 - Routing wiring to horns
I found a lot of threads in the archive but I couldn't find the exact routing of the cables to the horns for a TF 1500. Does any body has good pictures from the wiring room starting from the pedals to the front? I found a hole in the top of the chassis halfway. Is this for a cable clip? How do the wires cross the front cross member? |

John, not sure any help but if those horns mounted like EXU TC's maybe wiring the same route also. Just a thought. Maybe can find some info how it was done on those TC's with two horns on firewall. |

The TF has the horns at the front below the radiator and not at the firewall. |

John, here are the clips on the front holding my original wiring loom. Also, visit The Original MG TF midget website and go to Gallery. The pictures there may help, especially TF 9052. Matthew. |

John, I recently wired my TF 1500 after researching the pictures posted on this BBS and the photos of the near original TF 9052. Also, my TF had never been dismantled prior to my ownership so I attempted to duplicate how it was originally wired. The only thing I did that is not original is the protective black vinyl sleeve on the wiring. I will post several photos. Good Luck John

I routed the wire through the notch in the frame and hooked it on the clip. This clip was too small so I had to bend the tab slightly. The strap holding the wire to the stay bar is the original from my original harness. I did replate it.

The wire feeds through the gap on the front cross member clearing the steering.

The short wire goes directly to the left horn. the long wire is fastened to the steering rack with the same straps as used to tie the brake lines to the rear axle. Matthews photo shows the wire strapped to the lower part of the steering rack, but I chose to route mine higher. Hope this is useful. Best regards, John

Those pictures are a great help! The "metal tie-rap" around the bar is the clue! Many thanks. |

Protective black vinyl sleeve was original to some parts of the TF wiring including a section that runs past the oil filter. You may have done this more original than you realise JR. Matthew. |

M Magilton, can you tell us which parts of the loom were covered with a sleeve? |
John van den Boorn |
John, here is a pic of my car showing sleeves on the wiring loom. There are also two sleeves to the tail lights where the wiring is exposed under the rear guards, and one more sleeve past the oil filter. There is something on this in Archives but I don't remember where. Matthew. |

A pic of the sleeve running past the oil filter. Starts at the base of the firewall support tower and runs under the radiator. Matthew. |

Matt., Great shot for original detail on the TF bulkhead layout of sleeving, wiring etc. Good to see the two(2)wiring clips (black too) in correct position and the way the wiring comes correctly underneath the Fuse Block ! Pointed end fuses also in the Fuse Block. Cheers Rob Grantham |

Logically there should also be sleeves under the front tenders forvthecwiringvto headlamps and sidelamps? I don't see them on the pictures of TF 9052. |

John, Re TF9052,you must have missed the photo section 'Chassis and Underside', Photo No. 139 ! Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |
