MG TD TF 1500 - Running Lights
As part of my Safety Fast campaign, I bought a pair of halogen lamps from JC Whitney and mounted them on the badge bar to use as daytime running lights. I wired the fog lamp switch through the ignition (instead of the head lamp switch). Unfortunately, they pull the ammeter down to just the left of negative, and run down the battery. I only want to make the car more visible in daytime traffic. Anybody know about rheostats, or smaller wattage bulbs? Andy 52 TD |

Andy, Get one of J.C.'s (or anyone else) lamp relays and run the "Daytime" lights through the relay connected directly to the battery (starter switch). Control the relay with your ignition switch. You are going to cook out a very expensive ignition switch forcing it to carry the current pulled by those halogen driving lights. In daytime driving your dynamo should put out sufficient power to carry the load without drawing down your battery. Keep the Faith Arnie Molloy 53 TD |

Andy Suggest you look at Carl Cederstands article in this months Bulletin from the Octagon Car club where he mentions LED light sources that pull a mear 0.060 ampere & look like "Darth Vader's main battle laser"! Its in the as-allways superb Technical Torque section steve |
