MG TD TF 1500 - Runyon/'Ann Margaret' hardtop mounting hardware?

Good morning gentlemen:

We're going to start working on the hardtop mounting hardware in the next week or two, and I'm hoping that those of you with a Runyon hardtop [the one that's got the nickname 'Anne Margaret'] can take some pictures of the windshield and aft quarters mounting brackets. I'll include a picture of the hardtop just press-fitted on, but at first glance, I can't see how to secure it over the windshield nubs. And even if we change the name of duct tape to "MGTD Racer Tape" and get a roll of black, I don't think we've got a good solution.

And on a related topic: This top is pretty thin, and I bet it's going to pound like a bass drum. What have you hardtop guys done about sound insulation? I was thinking of that spray-in truckbox liner, but my co-pilot [always the fashion-driven part of the equation] would like to see a tan cloth liner to match the leather. Any suggestions?

Thanks, as always,
Dave

ps: wiring is almost done - but we got stalled when we discovered that the headlight bezel on the ignition switch wasn't contacting [when I got it, that's what those extra toggles were for on the dash, I guess - thank goodness for a timely and relatively cheap eBay purchase last week] so once the ignition switch is wired into the panel, another hurdle is cleared.

pps: Warmer in Alberta this weekend - if I can't drive the TD, at least I can go for a burn on the VFR...

Hooo boy - small steps...

Why Anne Margaret???

Why Ann Margaret?

Well, for some reason, the one with no provision for rear side curtains has been deemed to have long and pointy sideburns - so it has somehow acquired the nickname 'Elvis.' Don't ask me - I just read this stuff in the "National/TD Inquirer"

Here's a picture of the 'Elvis' top from one of our compadres in the Netherlands. It's a beautiful top, isn't it.

I can see "Elvis" but I still don't get the Anne Margaret bit. Is that the same Anne Margaret who appeared in "Grumpy Old Men"?? I don't read the National Enquirer, just the WSJ. What am I missing??

Geoff:

I really don't get it either, except to say that Elvis and Ann appeared together in 'Viva Las Vegas.' [Where, if I remember correctly, Elvis drove a Cheetah, and rumors of hot-and-heavy romances were pretty thick.]

So, I suppose, to finish off the silly and non-MG part of the story, if Elvis and Ann kissed and the camera faded to black, then nine months later might come along a pair of bouncing baby hard tops [fraternal twins, of course.]

Other than that goofiness, I have no idea where the nickname for the Runyon top came from.

Ah, I found it! I knew there was a reason I had this in my head somehow:

Just a name coming from a fellow from Texas.

So there we are - problem [and rumor] solved.

Time for a motorcycle ride,
Dave

Dave, I have a top I refurbished that is similar to yours. I have a few photos of the inside and outside if you would like me to send the best ones via email.
The interior was done by a man who installs new headliners in cars on used car lots. He used the same material and simply pasted everything in place. There is no reinforcement and admittedly, it is not very strong across the top. I just don't allow people to sit on it.

Jim:

Thanks so much for the reply - I was hoping you'd have some pictures. Send everything you can - I appreciate it so much.

Hi Mike,

I have a hard top similiar to Daves but no hardware to install. I would be very interested in receiving a copy of the pictures that you will be sending to Dave. I've had it sitting in place and got some ideas, but the pictures would be a great help.
