Little over 200 miles with my brother in laws car group.

Thats him in his ride and yes I was passing him to get this picture.

Entering the town of Hotchkiss for a mid morning break.

Basically modern muscle. Thats my friend Gary next to the Green Hornet who rode along with me.

L E D LaVerne

An appropriate stop for Gary and I as we are both retired railroaders.

This gal loves her Stangs ..this one powered my a Roush high HP engine.

This nice panel was the only other old iron in the bunch.
He once owned a Dino Ferrari.

L E D LaVerne

The only other British iron. He drove from another direction to meet us here. This car has some interest to me. Many years ago his late wife used to write stories of her travels in this car and they were published in a British Car Magazine (exact name escapes me now) I used to buy off the bookstore shelf. I think he was a little moved that I knew the name of the car was Buttercup. Unfortunatly his battery gave up the ghost where it sits. After giving some assistance at resurection he sent us on and a friend of his took him to the local parts house for a new one. He found us later at our lunch destination.

L E D LaVerne

It ws nice to get out of the heat.

L E D LaVerne

Destination was the Redstone Inn for lunch. And following lunch a promised tour of the nearby Redstone Castle. You can google it. Both very historic.

This sculpture was near the entrance to the Inn.

L E D LaVerne

Thought if I gave him a kiss he might come to life.

L E D LaVerne

He didn't come to life with this on his lap so I'd say there is no hope.

L E D LaVerne

Somebody screwed up so no tour was had of the castle. Very disappointing as thats what I went for. Ran pretty much at 80 mph on the return trip...back to the 100 degree heat. Gonna have to get the dryer duct foot vent in place if I keep doing this.

So have you all been driving?

We're leaving tomorrow morning for Colorado for a vacation.

No MG, though we're picking up a rental Mustang convertible at the Denver airport using airport transfers tonbridge.

We're going through some of the area you just toured. My father grew up in Paonia. We used to have lots of family in the area, including a few Hotchkiss's from Hotchkiss. Most are gone now, though. Kids dispersed to the big city and older folks retired then died elsewhere. My father is the only one left out of eight siblings.

We'll go through that area after Mesa Verde, the Durango railroad and a few other stops.

Getting out of the Houston area into the cool mountains will be a welcome relief. 107 here last week!

I remember Buttercup from British Car Magazine, too! Mag was sold and the name changed to Classic Motorsports.

Great pics LaVerne. So far, just shorter trips for the TF, like up to Port Townsend for an overnighter and then back to Olympia. The drive along Hood Canal was spectacular. I need to remember to start taking photos of such rides. The TF continues to run better and better the more it's on the road. Stay cool and continue to enjoy the rides of summer.

Paonia and Hotchkiss haven't changed much in the last 50 years David. Wish I could say the same about all the other once small towns (mine included). Haven't been to Durango in 35 years. Last time there my family and I rode on the train for free using my company pass. It was still owned by the Denver and Rio Grande back then. I had hair back then too. I don't think you will get much relief from the heat but at least it's a dry heat.

Good for you John. Short trips will build your confidence. Got an email this morning for a TC owner about the Peking to Paris Rally. See they had one in North America last year and another planned for 2015 hmmmm. Sounds like a good time to me...but I haven't seen any info on the costs.

Check it out here...

LaVerne, any trouble with the Hornet and supercharger at this time? Good to see the photos. GOF Central in St. Louis in two weeks. I cant make it this year but we are back in MN for 14. Hope to see ya there. I assume Dan will be at this years as it is close to him.

Laverne, my dad was a fireman back in the day when they actually fired the train. He later became an enginer which he retired from after 40+ years. We once went to Tombstone junction when I was about 10 and he rode in the engine and fired the train. They had ask him to work the summers at Tombstone junction but he said he wouldn't have retired if he still wanted to drive a train. LOL Later my uncle who had been a machinist for L&N did a little restoration on the train at Tombstone which is now being fully restored at Stearns Ky. Check it out you might find it interesting. http://bsfsry.com/index.php/engine-history

Cobra didn't make the trip, eh?

Engine and tranny are out of the car. Kinda like working on the Green Hornet...ya can't get the head off without removing the engine or the body and ya can't get the engine out unless you drop the tranny. Was over there Thursday for BBQ. Still hasn't got the engine apart, although the special oversize helicoil inserts and the replacement rockershaft have arrived. He hadn't noticed the shaft was bent until I pointed it out to him last week or he would be waiting on it as well. Thing has the same roller tappet set up as Len sells. Still haven't determined why it ripped the studs from the head. Did get a look at the new double clutch that he had just installed a few weeks ago. Hope it lasts more than the 3500 mile Kevlar job did.

Nothing long in Lavelle, but I'm out a lot just driving (grocery shopping, errands about town, out dancing, and such). I took an out of towner out to show her around in style. She was duely impressed.

Recently though, I've been riding the 1962 Lambretta quite a bit. I've met some scooter folks and attended some rallies. Those folks are a fun lot! I like the fact that they completely embrace the silliness of riding a scooter. Way more fun than the Cafe Racer motorcycle crowd. They seem to take themselves way too seriously.

My wife and I cruised to a Cars and Coffee meet Saturday morning. Out east of Boulder. Lots of fun cars.

What's the Cars and Coffee outing Bruce? A regular event, one time thing, how does one find out about them? I live in Louisville. Don't remember seeing anything in the MGCC calendar.

I need pontoons to go anywhere around here! That includes mowing the yard. If this doesn't stop soon I'll be out in the back yard looking for gators ...no doubt with the wife shouting "chut-um, chutum...hezzz a bigun. Been raining like every 15 minutes for the last couple weeks.

Here's where my drive took me last night. I guess the sign is reminding me that I need a set of studded 185-16 Hakkapalitas before ice racing season starts.
