MG TD TF 1500 - shock absorber
I know this is an old question but can I fit MGB rear shocks to my 1954 TF and if I can does anybody know how to reset the valve if its necessary, or re fill with a new grade of oil |

Richard - I don't know if the MGB shock will physically fit on the TD, but if it does I don't see any reason that it wouldn't work. There is no way to reset the valve to a softer level, but you could drain all the oil out of the shock (just remove the entire top of the shock and pour the oil out) and refill with motorcycle fork oil. I would probably go with 5W fork oil for the TD. Good luck - Dave |

I checked the Moss catalogs for both the TD and the B and found different part numbers for the rear shocks. I have no idea what the differences may be but if they were interchangeable, I would assume Moss would list them both with the same P/N. |

Richard, I have fitted MGB shocks in the front & MGA shocks in the rear, I had to go to Brown & Gammons in UK for the kit. I just got my new Moss catalogue for the T series and they now sell the MGB shock kit with the top trunnion that you will need to replace the set. I believe the conversion only works if you have Girling shocks, there is not enough room under the fender to replace the Armstrong shocks. BTW, the uprated shocks are wonderful! Coupled with an anti-rool bar, the car has almost no body lean when I corner... |

Richard, Sorry, I mis-read your post, you were asking about the rear shocks! The MGB shocks will not fit the rear, but MGA shocks will, not sure if Moss sells the kit for the rear, but Brown & Gammons still does I believe. |
