MG TD TF 1500 - Shock question
The right rear shock link is missing from my TD #5618. According to the Moss website there are two links listed, one for an Armstrong shock and one for a Girling. How do I tell the difference? I don't see any markings on the shock. |

By the way, how can I open the Girlings to check the oil level? It's a very large wrench size and I fail to open the cap with a tong. Do I need a special tool? Cheers, Guenter |

Guenter, I was given the advice that if the Girling was not leaking and worked, not to mess with it. I was told opening the shock can create more problems than it solves. If the shock is leaking or does not work, have it serviced by one of the services mentioned in the archives. Other than that, it should not require any attention. To test the shock move the arm through its full range of motion. You should feel continual steady resistance to the pressure you exert as the arm travels its length. If you stop pressing the arm, it will stop at that point. Larry |

Parts on order from Moss. Thirty some bucks for the rod, seventy for the bushing installation tool! If anyone needs to use the tool, let me know. |

Bob, I'd be happy to send you my notes from renewing my rear Girling shocks a few years ago. If you are interested, please send your e-mail address to me. Larry |
