MG TD TF 1500 - Sixty Two Grand

I just stopped by one of our local Birmingham, MI sports car dealers to look at a concours restored TC being offered for the princely sum of $62,000.
This was definitley not a "driver", or to be driven at all.
I did note a couple of addons, like a pair of stop lights which seemed a little superflous as it probabley would not go out in the dark anyway.
It remains to be seen if anyone will buy it at that price.
Maybe our little English cars are getting overpriced.

Wow ...for that kind of money you could put a down payment on a 2012 Pelosi GTxi SS/RT Sport Edition!

Well if 62 grand is a bit steep, you could try the Y Tourer on ebay-USA, a mere snip at 58 grand!

Sort of makes me feel like a poor cousin with my TF. Should I aspire to own a Y type?

Cheers,
Matthew.

David....the Pelosi GT is toooooo! funny. By the way have you seen the VW single seater, thats a real look car.
And they, the Gov't think MG are unsafe, rather be in one them than those S*** Boxes they are proposing.

Hang on, we are getting the FEEAT, Federally Explained, Economical, Automoble, Transportation.

Several years ago a friend of mine bought a Fiat sports car and was taken aback when I aksed him, WHY?
I told him to give a few months and it would "blow up". It caught fire in his driveway and was incinerated.

Colin,
We owned a Fiat for a short while ...don't know if that actually qualifies as "sports car"...we just referred to ours as "the red turd". LOL
My ar*e still hurts from the LAST ride in it...fell through the floor going over a set of RR tracks. That was right after swapping the engine out on it.
Been thinking about it every time I hear about the merger with Chrysler!

For those who haven't heard this before - Being an Italian automoble, the name Fiat stands for "Fix It Again Tony"... With his vast business experience, and automotive knowledge, I'm sure the "Anointed One" knows what is best for us all to drive (whether we like it or not)...

I've already quit one BBS due to all the political crap that got posted there. Can we not post it here, please?
Rob Edwards

Rob,
Your absolutely correct! Quit. Quit. Please quit.

Really funny video. The whole US automobile scene is very remenicent of what happened to the British industry and of course MG. So there is some relevance here- hopefully Government Motors will do better than BL (or whatever it was called while dying) did. Getting totally back to MG- Colin, does the dealer have a web site or any pictures or info about the car you can post? It would be interesting to check it out. George

Rob,
Sorry if I offended.
I would love to see some pic's of the TC also.

If you want to see the car billed as the "finest MG in the world", goto autoeuropesales.com and scroll down the cars in the for sale section.
David, are we now MG political outcasts? Chill.

Very nice car, but to be picky, Firestone tires? The correct underbonnet EXU horns are there, but some sort of added-on brand X on the badge bar (not the correct for TC Lucas Altette horn), didn't see the hood (top) or side curtains, and there are some screws or something in the bottom of the windscreen frame, and the light/ignition switch is the wrong one (the later window type with the raised handle). Easy to fix, and Overall a very nice TC. George

I don't know a lot about the MG TC, but I think it would be nice if the "finest MG in the world" came with the EXU bumpers installed by the factory, and provisions for a hood and side curtains.

For those who have looked at the website, The TF is also in the $60,000 range.
You would think they would get rid of the chrome WW and get the correct headlamps.

TC: What?
"1 of only 494 United States export models sent to US between December of 1949 to November 1949"
How many days are there from Dec. to Nov.?
Is my calendar backwards?

TF: Nice car ...can't help but feel I saw this setup for sale somewhere else recently? She's got 1500 reflectors on also.
I run the chrome Dayton's (60 spoke & wider 5.5's) with radials because I like the way it handles ..but for $60k with mine you get the orginal 48's also ..heck I'll even throw in the correct valve /tappet covers and the orginial muffler & tail pipe! Any takers? I won't hold my breath.

Nice cars, both of them but a shame the lil' darlings will never get to "corner robustly" ...but mama, that's were the fun is!
Cheers, political outcast

I've never understood people complaining about posts in a forum since it's the easiest thing in the world to ignore a particular post or, for that matter, a particular thread.

I do it all the time if I'm not interested.
