MG TD TF 1500 - sorry another hood prop

i know there have been many threads on this. but i thought maybe someone had not seen one they liked yet and might want one like this one. the piece was about 28 bucks plus freight. it comes with 2 different length arms. i used the shorter ones. it runs thru so both sides can be up.
it is stainless. the ends have a plastic coating on them to keep the hood paint in tact. (hoep you can see that)
usually i tie a string or loop a heavy rubberband on the crook and then up over the hood handle to keep any wind from blowing it off the holder.
i drilled thru the tool box and used the hinge bolts to hold it on. Probably a better way so as not to need to drill holes.

with the end closed so the hood can be put down.

Very neat. Where did you get them?

This is actually a hood prop i have on a model A. i got it from Brattons. typically they have u-bolts you put over the radiator support rods. So no drilling.

I guess I'm getting old but I don't see the prop propping anything? It looks like the hood is just folded down. What am I missing?

it is so you can see the prop. when the hood is on it you really don't see it. so i folded the hood back.
TLW Wright

Neat. Can you give us a link to the url of the product?

I found it. Thanks for the info, TLW, looks like a neat way to protect the hood.

Can you post a pic of it holding up the bonnet any way???? Does the side panel go between the tool box side and the hook???

i will try to get a pic tonight. but basically the first pic shows the hook turned out. the hood just sets in the bottom of the hook. hard to see it since it is black plastic. you have to look close. when you have the hood set in it all you see is the tip that is turned up. Maybe 1" of the holder. then just flip it over and it is out of the way to close the hood.
TLW Wright

TLW,
When you put the hood down it looks to me like the hook might not interfere with the hood even if you left it extended.

you know i did not try that. it might still miss it. i will check that tonight.
like i said they also send a longer arm which is about 6" with the bracket. i liked this one better because when it is in, the front of the hood rests against the radiator support so there is no undue pressure on the hinge. and it is more out of the way.
TLW Wright

i found this picture of the model a with the hood up but... same thing you really don't see the prop. black end and all.
i will try to do a better pic. maybe from under.

TLW Wright

i did get a pic this weekend from under the edge of the hood. hope it helps.
and yes you can leave the holders out with the hood closed.

TLW Wright

and a pic from outside with the rubberband. i double loop it underneath so it is tight behind the hood and then just pull it out over the handle.

TLW Wright

I have searched the Brattons site but can't find the prop. Might you have a part number or link to the item?
Thanks,
Mort

Thanks for the pic!! you could probably make a hook that attaches on the back side of the side panel and bracket so you don't see the rubber bands,,

Mort
see link above. it is at the bottom of the page.
TLW Wright

steve, good idea. i will look into that. i had thought about lopping the rubberband around the hood latch in the back. then getting a longer mouting/hinge bolt with a steel spacer that would keep it out about a 1/2 inch. then just hook the band over it so it would not show.
TLW Wright

Mort, it's Part #22250. I put a link to the page earlier in this thread, its near the bottom of that page on their site.

Thank you Geoffrey and TLW,
I had called them this morning, got the part number and ordered it. Should be here Wednesday.

I love to tinker,

Mort,

Do they come as a pair or do you need to order two.

Thanks,

Jim,
I believe it is one long piece with a clip at both ends. TLW should be able to tell you unless my part comes in before he reads this.

From looking at it, I would think a nice piece of Oak with a notch on each end could be bolted to the tool box. The notch would accept the side panel. It doesn't seem as if it has to be movable or pivot on the bolt to clear the bonnet in the closed position.

it is one long bar and the hooks are on both ends. they do not need to be closed to clode the hood. but it is pretty clean looking when in and it does not really show.
i do like steve's idea of hooking something under the hood to hold it to the hook.
