MG TD TF 1500 - source for brass rivets for headlight bucket

does anyone know a source for the large and small brass rivets used in the headlight buckets? the plater i use taps the old rivet and uses a small machine screw in the old rivet to reassemble newly chromed parts. i am not too confident in this scheme with short brass rivets. i think it would be easier in this case to source new brass rivets, have them chromed and press/squeeze them to reassemble the bucket. sincerely, tom

tm,

I can only suggest my trusty source for this - http://www,gregorysautoparts.co.uk. These folks are so specialist, that it wouldn't surprise me if they had it.

Please let us all know as I have been beating the drum for them, since they helped out a friend last year with some parts I thought were impossible to find, eg:- tripod for PA headlight, and block water tap.

Is it necessary to take the rivets out? My plater did a super job on my shells with the brackets attached. Considering the age of T series cars there is allways going to be something that needs fabricating and I argue that a T series owner needs more tools than a normal do it yourselfer. I have a Myford Super 7 centre lathe and would spend a very enjoyable couple of hours turning the rivets in copper. I would include welding equipment, basic marking out tools, hand tools, BSF and "engine" metric taps and dies and of course an angle grinder as essentials.

Happy Christmas to all

Gord,

Thanks for the syntax correction.

Instead of rivets I would use those screws with a round flat head no slit and a square stem for about 1/4 " just before the thread. Nobody will be able to tell the difference, and you can disassemble any time.

They are called carriage bolts in the US.
Good idea if they can be found in this size-maybe even stainless?
