MG TD TF 1500 - Spare parts storage
I have acquired a pair of new "original old stock" Lockheed rear brake cylinders and am wondering what is the best way to store them to preserve the rubber seals. Should I keep them in the warm dry house or the cool garage and lubricate with silicon grease or not? Hopefully they will not be required for some considerable time. Ta. |

John, a few years ago my wife got one of those "vacume sealers" for storing food as a gift. I've been using it to store spares. A thin layer of oil and/or a small bag of rice to absorb any moisture in with the part before sealing it. Seems to work great. Real nice for the ones I carry in the car....(spare dizzy /points and such)...that used to "collect" moisture in the side curtain storage in the boot. Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

I use silicone grease to help preserve thr "rubber" stuff. Either chemists stopcock grease or the "electrical" grease sold in auto parts stores. I would also keep parts where it's dry and not changing temperature too much ( inside is preferable). |
