MG TD TF 1500 - Steering Wheel Cover

Gentlemen,

I've long thought that the steering wheel on my TF was way too thin for my hands to be able to get a good grip. I've wondered if a good leather cover that was stitched to the wheel would be a good start, but my BRG and tan colour scheme says that a tan or biscuit leather cover is the way to go.

Is there anyone who has an idea of where to find such a beast?

I went to a Goodwill and bought a woman's leather coat (brown) and cut a strip right down the back...sewed the edges and sewed it in place...put a thin layer of felt underneath.....

When I get to that point I might wrap mine again. It is wrapped now with that faux leather with a lot of holes in it from yesteryear. I think it may be holding the wheel together as it is quite cracked. I'll have to do something about getting it fixed or sourcing out a better steering wheel.

I wonder if green wrapped wheel would compliment the interior or make it too Green.

I contacted Moss and got some bisquit leather so I could make a perfect match wheel cover. Also bought the needles and thread from Tandy along with a book on how to do leather stitching. Made what I think is a perfect cover. A layer of felt underneath, and about 6 hours of stitching, not including the practicing I did on scrap leather. You'll notice I also did a wrap for my grab bar as well. I checked all the aftermarket covers and could not find a color that matched close enough. I did not want black. And a wood wheel with the wood dash would have been too much.

Results speak for themselves.

Hi Larry; Could I see some more pictures of your car?
What color combination did you use with the biscuit interior? you can e-mail pics to me or post here if you will. Thanks,

Hi Gene,

I have a wheel wrap on my TD steering wheel that sounds like it is what you are looking for. It's been in use for about 10 years now, and has a nice feel to the grip. It has a thin foam lining that is soft and very comfortable and very easy to instal. Mine is in black but I know it is available in a biscuit colour. See attached picture [if I can get it to work].

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all of the replies!

Mr. Rutt: Your wheel is absolutely gorgeous!

I'll have to do some more digging.
