MG TD TF 1500 - Steering wheel hub...
Anyone happen to have an old steering wheel hub? Picked up an old Nardi 4 spoke wheel frame at Bronte last weekend and it has polished up pretty nice... Can have one turned, however, don't want the expense of the splines/etc. |

Gordon, Coincidentally, I too have a 3-spoke Nardi that took considerable tweaking to get it to adapt to the original TD/TF hub. I bought a useless complete wheel, cut off the spokes and for $10 had the surface machined flat, and drilled 3 holes in the hub. I then made a sub-plate with 3 holes on one side, and the many holes of the Nardi, inside them. Not pretty but it does (barely) cover the old hub. I saw at least a half dozen old wheels for sale at the British Invasion last week-end, and the asking price was around $10. So an old wheel is probably a good starting point. Moss, Kimbal and I believe Momo, all sell just the hubs, but expect to pay in the $75 to $100 range - maybe more. My Nardi has a very thin Mohogany rim with ebony insert - a work of art that frankly, is not a practical driving wheel. I am reluctant to use it, especially when I saw a chap have an accident at Harewood many years ago, in which the wood wheel broke and pierced his chest. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
