MG TD TF 1500 - steering wheel repair

Is there any material to repair a sound but cracked MG TF steering wheel? Something that has about the same expansion rate so it won’t crack again right away?

Was dreaming of the same thing myself...

Currently under consideration is modeller's epoxy putty (can be found in hobby model shops). This is 2-part and kneaded to mix, sets rockhard in 15-45 mins.

I have used it in plastic modelling before and it sticks very well to most surfaces.

However I am now thinking about the refinishing... the putty is grey, so certainly the wheel will need repainting. What with & how are Qs.

Jay,

Found an even better supplier at www.frost.co.uk

They sell a kit to repair bakelite and plastic steering wheels - only prob is it costs £65

May be better to buy a new one - I believe Kimble Engineering sell excellent repros.

My TD wheel is black - shouldn't it be an oyster shell
brown. Everything else is OK including the bronze painted boss in the centre.

Original steering wheel should be sort of a light brown, mottled colour. Fake Wood.
I started to repair mine with a 2 part epoxy resin that is very close in colour and it seems to be holding up quite will so far. The resin is fairly thin and runs easily into the cracks. Trouble is, you can only do a little at a time.

Jack,

I repaired mine with a two-part marine epoxy putty I got at Lowe's. The putty is like a clay after mixed and forms very well, and can be sanded smooth and to shape, and hardens very well. The only problem is that of color. Fortunately, my steering wheel had been painted black by a PO - so repainting wasn't an issue (not hard to match black as opposed to the original mottled color). It has been over two year and is holding up well.
