MG TD TF 1500 - Still More Engine Numbers
My current restoration project is a 1954 mgtf, Car # HDC46/6059 Engine #XPAG/ TF 36029 , Body# 16564. From the engine block, as yet ,not torn down, it appears the engine is a replacement or other unit. The stamped number above the brass octagon plate (near drain cock) is 5313 - does not agerr with 36029 Questions: The number at the generator mount is 24445 and on the same plane at the rear of the block near the dipstick is an inverted # 20L0 (Stand on head to read #) These appear to be casting #s, but can anyone tell me if these numbers relate to a specific car, year, or model? According to Neil Cairns'reference, the 24445 block is "Later post war 1250cc MG block, octagon cast in, oval (water)holes". The 168421 is the later TD and TF block with no ocagon and round water jacket holes. Seems you must have an early TD block ? |

Bill, Just sent you most recent copy of Jeff Payne's "TF List" and a link to the BMHT where you can get "build" info on the car from. Any other "TF'ers" out there not on the "list" I'm sure Jeff would like to hear from you! He has been doing a great job on this. jbp51mgb@aol.com Cheers, David |
