MG TD TF 1500 - Strange oilfilter

I went through the "expanded" oil change yesterday. The MG parts store in Oslo told me I had the old style filter, that no longer can be replaced. So he got me the new type from Moss, the blue one where you can screw out the filter from the bottom.
I put in a cleaner from Omega and let the engine run for 10 minutes before they emptied the oil. The mechanic then discovered that the bracket holding the filter strap had broken, and he repaired it.
When he took out the old filter he was a bit surprised, and he suggested this was not an original one.
Well, we filled up with Castrol 20-50 Classic, and I put some Omega 917 on.
I took the old filter holder to the MG parts person, and he told me he had never seen anything like it before.
I could have gotten a new filter to screw on this, but it would not have fitted properly.
The car has lived a life in England and Canada before I bought it, so I don't know where it has been fitted.
Does anybody here recognize it?
I have a 1953 TD.

I can't answer your question but beware of the "blue one from Mxxx". I bought one a few years ago and it leaked very badly and they gave me a full refund. It was made in India. I believe others had a similar problem back then. Maybe they have fixed the problem by now. Keep an eye on it!

efh, yes I will, thank you for notifying me. I am used to leaks, but doing what I did was to avoid too much leaking...

That is one of the old spin-on adaptors Abingdon Spares sold years ago. The worked very well, however the threads were directly in the aluminum and could strip. I ran one on my car for years, and upgraded to the new pretty ones with the steel inserts for the banjo bolts. George

George, what you are saying is they were prone to leak?
Raymond Wardenaer

No, they didn't leak. But I managed to cross- thread or strip one of the threads when installing the banjo bolts and had to by another one. This was likely 20 years ago. The ones Bob Granu (sp?) and the guy in California make/made had a steel insert to prevent this problem.
