MG TD TF 1500 - Substitutions
Just a few questions on part substitutions. 1. A few vendors list the same part for rear brake cylinders for MGAs and TDs (and TR-3s). Are they the same? If so, the MGA ones are sometimes cheaper. (and I may have MGA spares). (This restoration will be a nice driver, not concours like my other TD). 2. What about front brake cylinders? Will MGA ones work? 3. How about brake shoes? MGA drum shoes look a lot like TD shoes. Are they the same? The price difference is significant. 4. Finally, MGTD and Jeep CJ6 master cylinders look almost identical. The TD one is about $150, the other is $40. The CJ6 MC uses a 1" piston inside, but externally everything looks like it mates up. Any thoughts? Many thanks, Ira |

Mga shoes are for 10" drums while TD/TF are 9". Sandy |

I would not buy new brake shoes. It's easier to have new linings bonded on your shoes and at a fraction of the cost. Here we just drop them off at the local brake and clutch repairer and they sometimes even have a set of exchange shoes. Cheers, Paul. |
