MG TD TF 1500 - Sump Drain Plug Washer Source
Did a quick search of the archives but did not see what I was looking for. I want a part number for a sump drain plug washer from a local source like NAPA. This would be the type of washer that is crushed upon install and cannot be reused. Don't ask why I know it does not work the second time. :-) |

Chris Any good soft copper washer washer would do. Just anneal it before second use if you have to. But check the size measurement and get of box of 150 form Amazon. and have enough for all you brake stuff as well. $11.00 ASSORTMENT https://www.amazon.com/Copper-Washers-SELIKOUR-Sealing-Assortment/dp/B07H299LZM/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=copper+washers+sump+plug&qid=1611090824&sr=8-8 |

Chris, You can also use "Dowty" washers. I use them on my remote reservoir kits. I find them better than copper or fibre washers. Regards Declan |

I had to look up Dowty washer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonded_seal These look like they would be good for many applications if the proper sizes can be found. Jud |

Declan, are such Dowty washers applicable in oil en and (relatively) high temperature? I would like to try them for the oil lines around oilfilter. I use copper rings, but these always seem to leak a little bit. Greetings, huib |

Huib-- Dowty washers are magic, I've been using them for years on Jag. valve covers to seal them up Usually made from aluminium , the 'rubber' sealing section is definately oil resistant They are quite common on diesel engine fuel lines ,oil lines etc Your local diesel fuel pump reco workshop would have them Cheers willy |

Also the only washers allowed on high pressure medical gases in the UK. ( unless things changed after I retired) Ray TF 2884 |

Look up Dowty Washers on Amazon- amazing and cheap selections. That was only thing I could find to stop leaking oil line to the head. Never thought about drain plug. George |

I only use Dowty washers when the proper size is available, which isn't always the case. I use them on the hydraulic systems on my tractors where flat surface connections are. The ones I use are copper not aluminum. Annealed copper washers work just as well, but annealed first as previously stated. |

Just measured the o.d. of a sump plug at 30mm. Can't seem to find a 30mm Dowty washer. That Amazon copper washer set only goes up to 20mm. Chris, I still have a new A/S crush-type washer (Part #17-013). Happy to send it to you. Bud |

Amazon does have these? https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-10Pcs-1-5mm-Copper-Washer/dp/B07MLV7PKY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=30+mm+copper+washer&qid=1611502959&s=hi&sr=1-1 Just under a buck each with prime. And only 10 not a 100 :) |

Huib, It depends on the grade of rubber in the washer. If you can find them with Viton they are good for 200°C. NBR is only good up to 100°c or a brief temperature of 120°C. Regards Declan |

Bud came to my rescue and I also snagged a few from FTFU as a reserve. So I will just use the usual suspects. Still would be nice to be able to walk into an auto parts store and select one immediately. |
