MG TD TF 1500 - Suspension Rubber Kit

As soon as Spring calms down and I am back to just one job plus the never ending yard work my next big project on Little T is to pull the tub back off the frame and remove all the suspension so I can sand blast and paint.

I have read in the archives how quickly the suspension rubber kits from Moss disintegrate and Schach also comments on the poor quality of the rubber susupension parts available. I have read it is the result of components having a high rubber content but not 100% sure on this.

Has anyone found a source for higher quality suspension components including dust shields.

Rich

I agree that the rubber suspension kits are poor. My Moss kit on my TD is pretty old (around 1991) and might be from before the decline in quality. The lower swivel seals are just now showing some cracking. I would suggest, however, that whomever's kit you buy, you throw away the rubber a-arm bushings and buy Moss' or anyone else's MGB V8 bushings. They are steel surrounded by rubber, one piece, and are far superior to the origional type. Some of our other BBS friends advocate polyurethane bushings, but I couldn't comment because I have not used them. I would check the BBS archive, because I have seen some comments about them being harsher and noisier.

There are different hardness urethane bushings; the regular black ones from Moss are great. The red ones are too hard for daily driving, IMHO.

Richard, I fitted poly bushes from the following web site they supply two levels of hardness. Comfort or performance. I fitted the comfort as they are close to the original rubber. I have no noise at all from the suspension and pleased with the ride.

Some of the swivel pin seals I got from Abingdon Spares a few years ago had "ACG4030-Lifetime" molded into the rubber- those are still in good shape after 3 years on my TD. I used a handfull of various age link seals- all from Moss or Abingdon, and some had split badly before I could mount the tub on the chassis. Some could have been old? I have no clue why virtually all of the seals supplied for years have been such garbage! The worst is the lower swivel pin seal, since you have to remove the brake backplate to change that one. I second the V8 A arm bushings- cheap, easy to install. George

In reading this post, am I correct in assuming the MGB V8 "A" arm bushings will fit the "T" series "A" arms, or am I in the wrong ball park? PJ
