MG TD TF 1500 - TD bolts and supplier question

I am restoring a 52 TD and need to find what size bolts hold the front brake backing plate to the steering knuckle. I measure the holes at slightly smaller than 9mm and can't find these bolts listed in the diagrams of the suppliers I use.

Also, I am getting ready to buy a lot of smallish parts and I've been comparing Moss prices to Abingdon's. They are very different. Is there a quality or service difference between the two or should I just go with the lowest price?

Thanks.

Bill,
All the body bolts are British Standard Fine (BSF) and the threads are the Whitworth form (57 degrees instead of 60, and rounded instead of sharp)
the threads per inch are different the comparable fine thread american bolts.

The bolts are sized by the bolt diameter in English units (1/4- 26. 5/16-22, 3/8 etc. inches)

The bolt heads are also unique, you need a 3/8 BSF or a 5/16 W wrench to fit a 3/8 BSF bolt

The bolts you were asking about are 3/8 x 1 1/4 BSF bolts.

Note: The engine and transmission however us all French Standard Metric with Whitworth heads so British wrenches can be used every where on a T car

Bill, not sure about bolt size, but make sure whatever you used is good quality grade 8 (I think- someone please correct me if wrong!) I have dealt with both companies since the 70s, great service from both. Moss bigger, by nature not personalized (the guy on the phone can't go back and look at the part for you), has reproduced many things, some not available anywhere (beautiful upholstery, crankshafts, etc), was at the forefront of overseas reproduction of variable quality (chrome). Abingdon-- you can usually talk to Bob Seymore the owner, has individual components (such as fuel pump parts, etc),large selection of used and rebuilt origional parts, and at least use to supply many NOS Lucas and other original parts. Both companies will tell you the origion of the parts. As far as chrome, spend the $ on having your original parts rechromed if possible. I purchased NOS Lucas headlight and sidelamp chrome rings as well as the chrome steering wheel centerpiece from ASL a few years ago, cost more but, vastly better than the other repros. So it depends- we are just lucky to have two excellent suppliers to deal with! George

Hi Bill,

There is a fellow in Phoenix Ariz. who's specialty is in small items for the TC. Many items are interchangeable and you should check with him for what you require. His name is Doug Pelton and can be reached at "www.fromtheframeup.com". Hope he can help you.
