MG TD TF 1500 - TD bonnet rubber
I'm about to reinstall my bonnet on my '53 TD along with new bonnet rubber. Do you cut out the rubber for the hinge or mount it on top of the rubber. I searched the archives and had no luck on this. I did find this photo,is this correct? http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2627063490044799202XoUErv |

That is basically correct. If you don't cut it out the bonnet hinge will be way too high. Important: spend a lot of time placing and aligning this strip- it makes a huge difference as far as the lines and fit of the bonnet. It has to appear straight along the top viewed from the side, and the verticle also has to look right, with no gaps, etc. The verticle on my car actually curves a bit top to bottom on one side, but you don't see it unless you look straight down. You can pick your nail/tack spacing, and temporarily tack the strip in place with tacks barely short enough to hold it. Also, make sure the bonnet is closed and latched on both sides when placing and moving the strip, and that the bonnet is centered in the windshield center. Hope this makes sense! George |

Looks to me like a Facet pump. I wonder if it is pos. ground? |

"Looks to me like a Facet pump. I wonder if it is pos. ground?" It is a Facet Gold-Flo pump, sold under the Bendix name. All of the Gold-Flo pumps are negative ground. Cheers - Dave |

George, Thanks for the tip, makes good sense to me. It's just been so long that this car has been apart I'm forgeting how it all goes back! |

I had problems with the paint cracking at the inner corners of the hood tops. So, I only cut about half the thickness of the rear rubber for the center strip mounting not all the way to the wood. At the front corners, I inserted a double thickness of the rubber strip nearest the anchoring bracket. The two extra pieces are approximately 4 or 5 inches long and fit between the holes in the radiator shell. They are place on either side of the radiator cap and are difficult to see in the attached photo. After ten years, I have no more paint cracks in my new paint. It seems I have eliminated the bending of the hood top corners when it is closed and locked. |

A.G. why is your registration plate bolted to the inside of your toolbox lid? |

That's not my car, just a photo I found looking for how it was supposed to be. Here's a link to some of my photos. They are not in order. The car is now it's original woodland green. Just got done with the paint work and I'm putting the body back together now. I will post new pix soon. http://home.comcast.net/~theshoe5/site/?/page/1953_MG_TD/&PHPSESSID=8a91a718f42d629c561a0bd1d1b70c2eany |
