MG TD TF 1500 - TD carb heat shield
I made a heat shield. I'm hoping switching to non-ethanol and adding this cuts back on my problems. Anyway, cut from aluminum, a bit thinner than a cookie sheet.... a pic and plans submitted for your approval: |

Mitchell, very nicely planned out. Looks very clean installed. I haven't decided to make one as I have O ring isolators on my manifold to reduce cab shake and agitation of the fuel in the bowls. I did not jet coat my header which would drop temps several hundred degrees as well and my choose to do that next winter if I get tired of the excess heat in the foot well or have carb issues Good Job! I ran the car in moderate traffic for about 25 miles, about 80* day without any problems. When I got home I could hold my hand on the bottom of the carb bowls. They were noticeably cooler than before the shield was installed. ...... |

Thank you Mitchell I'm going to make one while I'm waiting for my distributor to come back. |

Hi Mitchell i have had exactly the same problem as you. Runs fine for 30 minutes the stutters and dies. Tried all ideas, including heat shield, problem found to be fuel pump partly failing after running a while Mike TD29330 |

M Lees. I though the fuel pump could be the culprit. I replaced my new Lucas AUA 25 (works with either pos or neg ground) with a known working pump from a running car and had the same problems. Each pump was less than 1 year old, Lucas AUA 25 If I have this sputter/die problem again, I'm hard wiring a generic pump/pressure regulator to eliminate the original design from the equation. ..... |

Might sound crazy, but is the tank venting properly. 30 minutes might be enough time to pull a slight vacuum in the tank. Crazy I know, but in a situation like this anything is possible. ?? PJ |

Paul, the gasket is there but useless. If I fill the tank too full it sloshes out on right hand turns. ... |

Well, I guess that eliminates that theory. I replaced my cork gasket with a large O ring and it seems to work very well. Not concurs of course if going that route. PJ |
