MG TD TF 1500 - TD clutch plate

I know nothing about the MG TD as I am a MGA person.
I have a question from a friend. What is the size (diameter) of a TD clutch plate and how many splines does it have?

What year is it? You have a choice of an early one or a late one?
gblawson - TD#27667

From car number 22251 (1952) it was an 8" clutch....

Hey Gordon, I think it changed to the 8 incher about #9000ish. My #10835 has the 8". George

My friend says that his car is TD 0579. This seems very early, especially if the TD started at Chassis 501 as the MGA did.
What are the two clutch diameters?
What is the number of splines on each type?
Is it easy to change from one diameter to another? Modify flywheel? New flywheel? Impossible?

Pre MG TF's, MG's started at 0251 which was the telephone exchange of Abingdon... Changed when BMC was formed?
Thought the first mga was 10101... didn't they continue where the TF left off?
gblawson - TD#27667

Yes, you are correct. The first MGA was 10101.
I was confused with the mga twin cam. The first Twin Cam was 501.

I am still looking for an answer. What is the diameter of a TD clutch plate and how many splines does it have?
I understand that there are two sizes of clutch plate. What are the two diameters and how many splines does each have?

CLUTCH
Type (up to Engine No. 9407) ... ... ... Borg & Beck 7¼ in. (18.4 cm.) diameter. Dry plate.
Type (from Engine No. 9408) ... ... ... Borg & Beck 8 in. (20.3 cm.) diameter. Dry plate.

Sorry, don' t know the number of splines.

Mick
The 7 1/4 " clutch plate has 10 splines
I recon there is the same on the 8" plate
as you can change from 7 1/4" to 8" without
changingthe gearbox
I had one old plate in my garage

Mick,

Data on dia and splines above OK.
Your query on fitting the later 8ins clutch - your friend will need the later flywheel and bell housing only.
In standard tune trim the 7&1/4ins early clutch is more than adequate.
