MG TD TF 1500 - TD Fastener list

Here is a link to my attempt at putting together a comprehensive body/frame fastener list. This list was put together with the help of a number of folks that regularly post here.

There are two additional documents provided by members for the floor and the tub wood screws.

Let me know if you cannot access the files and if you find any errors.

I have sent the lists to Chris Cooper so he can add them to his web page.

Bruce,

Congratulations on a magnificent effort with the TD Fastener lists.

Owners and restorers who do not have the original bolts, setscrews, nuts, screws etc. on their cars, will find your research invaluable.

Sharing your information with others on this Forum is also to be commended.

Cheers

This is not a complaint. I'll admit that this is my first exposure to Dropbox, that I have a very slow and clunky internet connection and that my computer savyiness relates to IBM twin 360 mainframes and PL/1 coding but I have not been able to access the files. I was able (once) to see the floorboard list but was unable to print it. The other two files simply never opened after waiting ten minutes.

Is it me (probably) or is there an issue with them?

Thanks, Bruce, for your work and your valuable contributions to this forum.

Sometime this winter I will merge Bruce's list with mine.
Christopher Couper

I will work on it next week when I am at my son-in-laws. He is pretty sharp on computer issues and I will see if I can combine the files into one that I can post on this site.

The current files are word, excel and pdf

Bruce,

I've been trying to download the list ever since it was posted, but all I get is:

This page can’t be displayed

Not surprising as Dropbox has always been a bit of a gamble and absolutely not one of my favorites.
Lew Palmer

I ended up opening the data with IE 11. You have to have excel and word on the PC or laptop you use, or that wouldn't work. Then I could not save, or properly download to save, so copied the url of the opened info into Chrome. Then opened, downloaded and saved. Whew. Great info, but a little easier to deal with may be better. You did better than I would have. George

Good job Bruce, thanks.

I should have it so I can download it here shortly.

Today, I did find an error. The door hing should be a 1 1/2" screw x 16. I corrected that, but I am now unsure if these are 2BA or whitworth. The ones I got from MGbits are whitworth.

Bruce -

I hope that you don't mind me adding a link to my complete floorboard fastener file. It includes the floorboard diagram that shows where each fastener goes. The list is useless without the diagram. Stored on my Google Drive.

FYI - I use a free PDF program that will merge, split, or modify PDF files. May be good for producing your fastener list. "PDFill"

Thanks Lonnie

PDF would be a good way to have all the same and easily shared.

I will word on that.
Bruce Cunha

Congrats Bruce. Can you contact me off line? I think I still owe you a ouple of the circular LUCAS battery stickers? Cheers

Ok, here you go. I combined all the lists from myself, Lonnie Cook and Hirum Kelley.

I also found a few more corrections. A big file, probably better for on line use, but this should give a lot of information.

Let me know if Dropbox allows you to download this.

I can also turn these into images, but the program makes an image of each page, so it would take 17 uploads for this web page.

I will talk to Chris to see if he can list the PDF on his web page.
Bruce Cunha

Bruce, I downloaded, printed and saved from the dropbox with no problems. Thanks. Jud

Hi Bruce. First many thanks on behalf of as all for undertaking such a monumental task. Did you include the two 2 BA T nuts and slot head machine screws that secure the swiveling plate that covers the master cylinder? I couldn't find them. I don't believe they are included on Roy Chalberg's drawing. A minor detail but an important one for those of us who own RHD TD's and possibly also for the TF. Reconciliation of both yours and Chris Couper's work would bring us ever closer to the origin of the species. Cheers

Good catch Peter. My car did not have the cover. I believe the floorboards are not original.

Did all TD's come with the swivel plate to add brake fluid? If so, I will need to get one. (But if Peter's has one, then mine probably should as it is newer than his.)

Lonnie. Did you have that on the floorboard list? I can add it to the general list. If anyone has the length of the machine screws, let me know what they are.

Bruce Cunha

Here's a shot from an original floorboard. It shows me screwing in a 2 BA threaded machine screw to prove that it is indeed the correct thread. Cheers

This shows the shape of the original hole in the floorboard and gives you some idea of its location. This is of course from a RHD car which had obviously served its previous owners well, no doubt traveling over tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of miles. Each T nut was secured with 3 short flat head pins or nails. I still have them in the shed down the back complete with the original T nuts, still in situ. They were fixed in alternate holes. One of the fixings is missing from both of the T nuts. Cheers

Here is the 12 13 2019 update. I added the Axle Nuts and the master cylinder inspeciton plate screw. I have a question on the master cylinder screw, so I may need another update.

I am listing the changes and the date I made them at the bottom of the form.

Bruce Cunha

Bruce,

The tee nut and screw for the swivel plate to access the master cylinder are not on my floorboard list. I believe that the swivel plate was for RHD cars and possibly for early LHD TDs.

It should be noted that some of the tee nuts and screws listed on my floorboard fastener list are round and some are rectangular. All are secured with short nails as Peter describes.

Photo of 5/16" BSF Tee nut that secures seat to floorboard. Two in each floorboard. The other four Tee nuts are 1/4" BSF … round and rectangular.

This may be original with three original nails.
