MG TD TF 1500 - TD Front Disc Brakes

Has anyone installed the Wilwood front disc brake conversion? If so were the residual pressure valves a necessity as well as modifying the master cylinder?
RFA Robert Agrella

There is already a residual pressure valve in the TD M/C.
It is the rubber seal and top hat N/R valve at the cylinder end.

For information. I just went yesterday to the french MOT.
The MGTD was tested at 66% break efficiency. And only 2% unbalance for front and 8 % for rear.
This is quite similar to my modern !

The twin leading shoe is performing as discs.

Drum brakes are more than adequate. Disk brakes are simple and generally easy to maintain but don't add much, if anything, to the braking performance. What is the reason for converting?

The reason I ask is that the Moss instructions say that the pressure relief in the master needs to be removed when installing the Wilwood kit. I understand all the arguments for and against this conversion but I was curious to know whether anyone has completed one. It is certainly a fairly expensive conversion and may or may not be worth it. Thanks for the replies.

I support the above arguments. There are probably better places to spend that kind of money. Diff conversion, 5 speed gearbox, etc.
If you don’t race with constant brake use where fade may be an issue, there is no need for disc brakes. Brake performance with drums is way adequate to stop the car. And you may even need a different master cylinder since discs are not self reinforcing, i.e. more pedal pressure needed.
As for maintenance, I converted to DOT 5 some years ago and never had to touch the brakes since.
One brake conversion I would consider worthwile though is a dual circuit brake system. The dual cylinder front brake arrangement would offer a good basis to always keep 50% of braking power.
