MG TD TF 1500 - Td fuel pump SU stickers
Did the original SU fuel pumps have the Blue and Gold identification stickers. If so does anyone know where to get the sticker. My TD is a 53 TD MK II. Thanks, Gust Nelson |

Gust - The blue and gold tape is not available. Burlen Fuel Systems show a part number for them but will not sell them. Moss has some yellow tapes that showed up on some pumps that were factory rebuilds as near as I can determine and I used them on a few of the pumps that I restored for one individual, only to see the pumps show up on E-bay, being advertised as NOS. I call the individual on that as being deceptive advertising and have never used those tapes again on pumps that I restore. I am sure that this is the reason BFS will not sell the tapes. The tape does not seem to show up in any of the factory T series photos. Cheers, Matthew. |

The tape probably came about sometime after the production of the high pressure pumps that are mounted under the car to seal the joint between the top of the coil housing and the end cover from moisture and dirt. Prior to that, with the pumps mounted in the engine compartment, there was no reason to seal that joint. Today the joint is sealed with a wide strip of black electrician tape with the blue and gold tape applied on top of that on all dual polarity pumps and negative ground all electronic pump. If it is a positive ground all electronic pump, the wide black tape is replaced with wide red tape. Matthew is correct, the early, low pressure pumps used on the prewar and T series cars up to the late TFs never had any kind of tape on them. Bottom line is that the presence (or lack thereof) is not an indication of an original SU pump. There are other indicators of the relative age of the pumps. If anyone is interested in these indicators, they can e-mail me and I'll put together some photos that show them (be prepared, it may take me a bit to get it all put together). Cheers - Dave |

I don't know its origin, but here is a picture of the remains of the paper tape I found on the SU fuel pump in the engine compartment of my 1952 MG TD. Larry |

Thanks to all for your help. From best I can tell my sticker removal was my best choice. Am sure my pumps had been replaced over the last 57 years and 46,000 miles Regards, Gust |

Gust: You can purchase the SU blue tape from Moss item number: 408-445 Decal Fuel Pump. Louis |

OR you can play around with the computer and printer and make your own :^) Dallas |
