MG TD TF 1500 - TD Generator parts

Hi guys:
With the expert advice of Bob Jeffer I have been restoring my TD charging system. We discovered the generator was not charging, even after installing Bob's excellent electronic regulator. Finally we determined the problem was with the armature, and I sent it to Holcombe Armatures to be rewound. In disassembling the generator the fiber? insulator that goes around the connector that comes from the field coils and a fiber washer that goes between the commutator and the commutator end plate desintegrated. The fiber washer is aproximately 1" x 5/8 x 3/32 and the insulator is small tube aproximately 5/16" long, 7/16 OD, 5/16 ID. I have not been able to locate a source for these part and any advice on sources or materials to fabricate them will be greatly apprciated. Thank you very much.

Stuart - Have you talked to Holcombe Armatures to see if they include the fiber washer in their complete generator rebuild kit? If they don't, I have fiber washers for fuel pump banjo fittings that will work in the application that you need even though they are not the full 1" OD (all that washer is for is to take up some of the end play on the armature, so the smaller OD shouldn't make any difference). As for the tube, there are a couple of alternatives. One you could have a machinist make one for you out of nylon or delrin. The other alternative is to make your own insulator for the field coil terminal by winding some fish paper (a thick insulating paper used in older electronics units), cut the the proper width, around the terminal with enough layers to fill the space. I have some fish paper that I can send to you if you want, just e-mail me at the above address. Cheers - Dave

Stuart Thank you for the kind words! If you need I can machine a tube for you. I think I have some laminated rod about the right size. Please confirm the dimensions exactly.

I HAVE USED SEVERAL LAYERS OF SHRINK WRAP. 3-4 LAYERS BUILDS IT UP TO ACCEPTABLE CLEARANCES.

Hi Dave, Rob and Sandy:

Dave: I think I have spare banjo bolt fiber
washers, if I don't I will let you know. Thanks a lot for your help. The Holcombe kit does not include the tube.

Rob: The dimensions of the tube are (in inches): L = 0.375, OD = a Y drill bit will go thru the hole the tube has to fit, a Z drill bit won't, ID = .300. I hope this is clear.
I have sent you 2-3 messages and had no reply, I believe it is because of the problem with the extra "mail" in my address, I think I have fixed this problem. Did you receive the messages? Thanks a lot for your valuable advice and help.

Sandy: Thanks a lot for your suggestion, but I think from the above replies you will see the problem is solved.

With best wishes,

Stuart

Stuart Did you send them to bobj20@adelphia.net ??
That address no longer works, <bobj50 @comcast.net> is what works now. Adelphia went bankrupt and the assets were bought up by Comcast. It has cost me no end of trouble.

Can you resend those emails?

I think I can get the shop heated tomorrow and fire up the lathe and make you a tube. Will let you know how I make out.
Cheers,

Bob

Stuart - I was mistaken when I said a banjo washer, it is the washer for the outlet fitting and filter plug on the low pressure pumps. Since we are leaving tomorrow morning for California, I'll stick the washer in the mail to you today. It looks like Bob has you well covered for the tube. Cheers - Dave
