MG TD TF 1500 - TD Girling front shock mounting bolts

Does any one know a source for original or replacement hardware for mounting the Girling front shocks to the TD chassis? Moss only shows bolts for the Armstrong"s. I would prefer originally marked bolts as this is a restoration. Bolts in place are aftermarket and seem too short for safe mounting. Any help with length , source and price would be greatly appreciated

Bill - I don't recall right off hand what the length of the original mounting bolts are, but British Tools and Fasteners http://www.britishfasteners.com/ has 3/8" BSF bolts up to 4" long. You might want to that source out. Cheers - Dave

The table I recently got from Dave D shows 4 3/8BSF x 1-3/4 and 4 3/8 BSF x 2-1/8 for Girling shock, front. Jud

Bill, Forgot about BT&F, sorry. I haven't compared prices and delivery times, but I have bought items from British Tools & Fasteners with no problems. I've bought bolts, nuts, screws along with taps and dies. I was happy with their products and attitude. Would definitely buy from them again. I buy from B&G when no one else has what I need. PJ

JK, Thank you for the lengths on the bolts. Neither Moss, or B&G lists the lengths on their hardware and Moss doesn't even offer them for Girling. Though the B&G shows a Girling shock in the picture they don't say that they are for the Griling shock VS Armstrong.

Paul, I will look deeper into the BT&F and bookmark it as I wasn't aware of the site.

Does anyone know what the marking on the heads would have beanie Newton, Richards, ??? Would like to eventually find the OEM pieces if someone has spares...

Thanks

Bill - Look through the listing of fasteners on Chris Cooper's web site, The Original MGTD midget at http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/ He has a listing of original fasteners and the markings on them. Cheers - Dave

Interestingly my car probably had Armstrong shocks originally and then got Girlings in the 60's when the Armstrongs went south. I guessed this because there were a bunch of washers under the bolt heads. I just left them that way but don't tell anyone. I never measured these :-(

Keep in mind that the captive nuts and the spring pan will dictate how long a bolt you should use so find one that is a bit longer than you need, install it to the right depth and then determine how much shaft is still exposed. Subtract that from the length and you are ready to order from any of the suppliers or dig through your box of bolts.

I would say any of the popular bolts is fine such as Newton, Bees etc as I suspect it was the bolts dejour that made there way to the car.

You can see the suppliers listed here:
