MG TD TF 1500 - TD Grill Paint - Tan/Buff

I'm looking for a paint color to match the tan/buff-colored interior. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

For tough and durable paint, go to an automotive paint jobber, borrow a paint chip book, match, and have them mix whatever you need. Some shops have computer color match cabability as well. Of course you or a body shop will have to spray. Or go to any large auto parts store, and look for the touch-up paint- Duplicolor or Plastikote is sold around here, and you should find something there. This is usually lacquer, so make sure you use the correct primer! I think the hood/screen paint is virtually the same as a Krylon color also.

I used Krylon Manilla Cream satin finish with good results on my 1951 TD that is red with a tan interior

Just recently, (the last couple of years) Jobbers have been able to custom mix paint and put it in an aresol spray cans. Price is about US $14.00 vs. a can of Krylon at $4.00, but you can any colour you please.

Jim,

The VERY best way to finish your slats is to use powder coating. Conventional paint will soon chip and rust will start in the seams etc.

I took advice from this site and took my slats to a local powder coating firm along with my seat squab and they were able to match the colour very well. In my case green. Cost was £20 which included bead blasting - possibly cheaper than buying aerosols.

I have now had tank sides, straps, head lamp brackets, radiator stay rods, horns, hood frame and much more done, all with terrific results. Just an alert though - strip the old paint off your air filter with paint stripper - you don't want to use bead blasting here.

Thank you for the suggestions. It sounds like there is no one paint code or color which is 'correct'. Now all I have to do is figure out which of these many excellent suggestions to follow!

Cheers!

Jim, I'm not sure of your tan/buff color but I purchased a Moss biscuit interior for my TF and found a color by rustolium that matches very well. Painted all my interior metal bits that require interior color. The match is better than if I had it computerized and mixed. If interested I'll check the can for the numbers.
