MG TD TF 1500 - TD Headlamp Fastening Nut
I took the headlamps apart several years ago. I dont seem to find the nuts that fasten them to the bracket. (I also cant find the original tail lamps, badge bar, and fog light. I had the fog light just a few months ago. Old age is hell) The thread appears to be 5/8-26. Moss want about $6 each and for that I can make them. Ar the just flat nuts? Does anybody have a measure of the thickness and is the hex the same as a 5/8 BSF or it it something else. %/* BSF is 1.010 across the flats which appears to be out of proportion to the bracket. Thanks for any help. Jim B. |

A 7/16 WW open end wrench fits the flats on my original nuts, and the Abindon repro spares I have. Measures about 7/8" across the flats. George |

Thanks George. I guessed, just from the asthetic point that it should have been around 7/8. How thick is the nut. I guessed 1/4" but it looks a bbit thin. A lot of the threaded sleev seems to be sticking out. Jim B. |

JA Mine are brass. Thought that was what was original? |

Jim, The ones in the picture are: 21mm across the flats 10mm thick Mort |

Jim, I forgot to measure them this AM, but Mort's look correct and 10mm seems right also. George |

Thanks Mort. I did not think 1/4" ~6.4 mm looked correct. Bruce I had not thought of brass. The threaded posts/swivels are steel with any plating long gone. I am coating them with rust converter, which turns them black. I dont like the ides of brass against steel. I made a pair of 1/4" wide ones yesaterday. I will make a new pair of 10 mm ones today. Now that the tools are set up its will go quickly. Thanks to all Jim B. |
