MG TD TF 1500 - TD. Headlamp retaining bolt - finish
What is the correct finish for the head of the heavy bolt retaining the TD headlights to the support bar - painted body colour, unfinished, black or ??? Mine is showing slight rust and I would like to halt the process early on. |

Ian, Try this site, it has a lot of good details http://www.el-dorado.ca.us/~ccouper/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm Bernie 51 TD |

Actually that is a good question. I was looking for some older pictures for a definitive answer and I can't really give one. Most folks chrome plate the bolt and have the nut cad plated. Others have had the bolt and nut colored the same as the body color, while others have opted for black. It depends on how you finished the bracket into the radiator. If chrome you might want to go chrome etc. Chris |

The original finish on mine before I repainted the car appeared to be cadmium plated. I painted mine silver as I didn't want to pay to send them to a shop. |

I agree with Blake that the original retaining nuts were cad plated which is the way my '53 was configured. I had mine chrome plated however. |

I used a stainless buttonhead cap screw with a thin pattern stainless essna nut. Polish the head and you've got a sharp looking piece that won't rust. I know, I know; they didn't come from Abingdon that way. |
