MG TD TF 1500 - TD Horn screws

I read a thread where someone had found the screws that hold the horn button into place.
I have the horn the screws & the backing plate but the nuts that hold it on are missing.
The screw seems similar in size to the center post on the ignition switch. If it the same soft lead/brass nut I guess I need them.
So... I am looking for: 2 screws and the nuts that hold my horn into place.

Vincent,
This may not be "correct" for "concourse"...but then I have never had anybody look that close at mine. I used stainless steel 440 screws with nylon capture nuts.
Someone out there will no doubt be able to tell us if that is "minus 2 points" for each "set" or "minus 4 points" for each screw & nut....good grief...could be even "minus 6 points"....I used stainless washers as well ;-)!!!!

I may not be going for concourse now but I may in the future.
The chrome escutcheon that surrounds the horn button is what is tapped. If I change to 4-40, the original threads will be forever altered.
I thought of the 4-40 idea but was hoping to somehow find the original.
I wonder if machinist could make these.

Vinnie,
Yikes...more lost points for me...I do not have a "chrome escutcheon"....just a "bakelite" type horn button mounted to the underside of my cowl....so the 4-40's worked well for me as they fit right in existing holes. Must not be talking about the same type horn button. Still better off than when I first aquired the car...as it does work now!
Cheers,(beep-beep)

first they hide the headlights in the wings and now they hide the horn button under the cowl,What next? Maybe a fake radiator cap.Have a good day David.

Good Grief ...I never thought of that (fake radiator cap) I thought it was a "sealed system"...like the bonnet on a Rolls Royce....and required a special "key" to open...I have had some concern that I have been unable to contact anyone at the Abingdon factory for quite some time to have them come round and check the levels! Perhaps I should take a closer look at this in the morning. Next you will be telling me I should be checking my own oil levels as well.

Vinnie - Ihave a horn push/dimmer switch that I got some time ago and I assume that it came from Moss. The screws holding everything together is the proper diameter to be a 5BA, but the threads don't match. I Don't know if the unit I have is using the original threads or if they are a metric thread. I would suggest that you take the screws that you have to Lowes or Home Depot or to a good fastener store that carries metric machine screws and see if the threads match anything there. Let me know what you find doing that as I may be able to help you get the proper screws once we determine what the thread pitch is. By the way, a 4-40 screw is too small (sorry David - you are up to about 8 points off now), the diameter of the screws (at least the ones on mine) is closer to that of a 6-32.
Good luck - Dave

I bought a pack of suitable screws a few weeks ago (they were very difficult to source) and have arranged to send a couple to Vincent. Whilst e-mailing me his postal address he asked where I bought my ignition switch transfer from. I remember passing on the name of a supplier to another BBS subscriber but have lost both the suppliers and subscribers address. If this e-m rings any bells perhaps the person involved can put the suppliers address on the board. The transfer does a superb job.

Jan; go to Ignition Switch BBS on 25 April and you gave out the name vintagemotorspares.com as the address for the decal.

Jan - Out of curiosity, what is the size and thread of the screws you got? Cheers - Dave

I'll bet on 4BA as the size. For some reason , Lucas and others used 2BA (about 10/32 and 4BA about 5 or 6/40.)
Rarely any odd BA sizes.
