MG TD TF 1500 - TD IGNITION SWITCH,1950

A few years ago I was provided with a partial dash wiring diagram showing the wiring on the back of the ignition switch. The diagram did not show an "L" post. The writer did not use the "L" post on his switch but my "L" post is wired. We both have this "L" post. A DPO rewired my TD with brown lamp cord using a 20 post wiring block screwed to the firewall to connect wiring between the regulator, outside lights. gauges and switches.
My initial wiring project was to remove the under dash aftermarket direction switch, install a Moss direction light relay and in the process replace all the brown lamp cord to the rear lights & leave the front end lights and engine bay wiring alone. Simple!!! I now have the dash pulled back removing brown wires going no where & wires going to a wiring block then from the wiring block to a gauge or switch in the dash then back to the wiring block. My multimeter is busy!
I could have purchased a wiring harness but did not feel I needed to replace every thing.
So, what is the "L" post for? Does anyone know a reason not to use the "L" post?
Post identification, 1 o'clock,"A"; 5 o'clock, "H"; 7 o'clock, "T"; 8 o'clock "L" & in the center, "IG".
Thanks
Morris

Mr Wadds

As per the TD/TF WSM pg N.21

(A) goes to the A1 terminal of the regulator
(H) goes to the Horn/Dipper switch
(IG) goes to the ign warning light
(T) goes to the panel light switch
stop/tail light
side lamps
fog lamps

Hope this answers your ???

Not sure if I am reading the pic right but it looks like if you used L instead of H when you switched on the sidelamps the headlamps would come on too. So in essences you would never have a sidelamp only setting.

I'm sorry I didn't read your question properly. I just did my wiring with a repro harness. The L post is switched parallel to the T In essence they function the same switchwise I transferred the fog light wire to it.

Thank you all. Trying to accurately describe my situation and reading the responses is very helpful. The Cowley web site text describing the switch is excellent. The post "L" is for a low side lamp filament setting in a two filament side lamp.
In the text they refer to the post "H" is for a head not a horn as I had though. I assume the word "head" refers to head light rather than horn. It really doesn't matter. In my situation, the only original wire under the dash runs from the post "H" to the horn/ dimmer switch.
My switch has a lead attached to the "L" post but I have not traced it yet so Bill thanks for passing on how you used it.
The attached image shows all the lamp wire I have removed with more to come out.
Thanks
Morris
